This is the official student blog of Christopher Newport University. Here our students share their stories with you and let you know what life as a Captain is all about.

The Bloggers

I am Jaclyn Bosse and I’m a sophomore here at CNU studying political science, with plans to journey abroad this spring in Florence, Italy for the semester. I have a brother here as well, named Michael Bosse, who is honestly the sole reason I even applied to this spectacular university. I play violin for the University Quartet, and work in the media center in the library in my spare time. I grew up on a 10-acre farm with three horses and I have an adorable lab mutt named Sherlock Holmes.

My name is Brooklyn Carroll. I am a senior this year at CNU. As exciting as it is to be a senior, I am also very nervous. I am now one step closer to walking into the real world and that can be a culture shock. At CNU, I am studying business administration with a concentration in marketing. I am also working toward a minor in studio art. This past summer I interned at homes.com, a subsidiary company of Dominion Enterprises in Norfolk. I had a wonderful learning experience as part of the marketing team for Homes.com. I am relatively reserved, but I do love to express myself. I enjoy art, dance, writing and theme parks.

Hi y’all! My name is Isabel (Izzi if you’re feeling friendly) and I am a junior with a major in neuroscience and minors in biology and leadership studies. Aside from this job, I work as a referee for soccer intramurals, oversee a research project working with zebra fish, contribute to research surrounding mice and Alzheimer’s, volunteer at Riverside Regional Medical Center, am involved in the President’s Leadership Program, Pre-Med Scholars Program, and also hold a position as the vice president of risk management in Alpha Phi here on campus. Beyond that I am a huge movie fanatic and bookworm, love to spend time in the outdoors and dream of having my own dog named Olive!

Hi, my name is Travis Rocha and I am a sophomore at Christopher Newport. I am currently working on my bachelor’s degree in communication. On campus, I am a member of the President’s Leadership Program, SPCA Club and a brother of Psi Upsilon. I also enjoy petting dogs and long walks on the beach.

My name is Edward Sonnie III, although I go by Eddie, and I am a sophomore here at CNU. I am pursuing majors in both Spanish and communication, as well as a leadership minor through the President’s Leadership Program. I have made it my goal this year to get as involved as I possibly can on campus, and as such, have joined several organizations and I am even starting my own. I currently work for Residence Life as a front desk assistant in York River Hall, I am a member of the Marketing Committee of CNU’s Residence Hall Association, and I am also a tenor in the University Chorale. I am in the process of starting up the CNU Spanish Club, which surprisingly, we did not already have.
